About Us

Reel Beauty, Inc. (RBI) is a 501 (c) (3) organization whose mission provides proven self-esteem workshops that will assist young women to become productive citizens within their environment as they re-discover their beauty inside & out. We accomplish our mission by offering a 14-week activity-based curriculum for young women implemented inside Chicago Public Schools. Our services provide young women with a road map to overcome problems of social issues that relate to low self-esteem, lack of self-worth and conflict resolution.

Our goal is to get back to the basics in taking responsibility for our girls by restoring and revitalizing their mind, body and spirit. Our philosophy is “Reel Beauty is Skin Deep.”  Cumulatively since our inception in 2004, we have mentored upwards 1000 girls’ throughout Chicago. Our program has touched the lives of young women within the Roseland, Englewood, Morgan Park, South Shore, South Chicago, West Englewood, West Pullman, Pullman, Kenwood and Hyde Park communities. We initially launched our program inside Little Black Pearl located in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood implementing the self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence component for their after-school students.  Later, we landed partnerships with Roosevelt University GEAR-UP, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, University of Chicago; Project’s Exploration and The Clorox Foundation to name a few.  In June 2011, RBI launched its first international program, “Uzuri Wa Kweli” in Tanzania, Africa at the Uzima Centre. RBI is committed to changing the lives of our girls locally, nationally and internationally.

Reel Beauty not only made inner city girls feel beautiful and more self-assured, but also equipped them with tools to help them succeed in life.  In 2009 we expanded our curriculum offering conflict resolution as a result of female aggression and social & emotional issues from society or home.  These services were introduced at John C. Hope College Prep in January 2009 located in one of Chicago’s notorious neighborhoods-Englewood. In spring 2011, the other components from our curriculum were implemented inside South Shore School of Leadership, which included development and utilization of leadership skills, academic performance and conflict resolution. RBI services offered our Priceless Pearls which targets lack or low self-esteem that potentially lead to pregnancy, Stepping Stones which focuses on the development and utilization of leadership skills, Peace Not War which focuses on resolving conflicts peacefully, F.R.E.E. which includes peer-to-peer female camaraderie, P.R.E.T.T.Y.S.W.E.E.T, which focuses on alcohol and substance abuse prevention among teen girls, Diamonds in the Ruff which focuses on self-worth, how to value yourself and what you believe in. In 2014, Reel Beauty added additional workshops to our project model, which include: B.Y.O.B. (Becoming your own boss-entrepreneurial skills), Plain beauty, Beauty for Ashes (emotional distress) and D.A.V. (Dating Against Violence).

To date, along with a dedicated team of consultants, 5 board members, RBI alumni and volunteers, Reel Beauty, Inc. continues to support young women lives.  Their outreach in the community has impacted the lives of young girl’s through out the City of Chicago and aims to become an international force of change in every girl’s life.  For more information, please visit our web site at www.reelbeautyinc.org.
